    • These are normally made of AISI 302/304 or AISI 316, AISI302/304 offers higher breaking strength
    • AISI 316 offers better electrolytic corrosion resistance whichmakes it more suitable for marine applications
    • The grade of the wire is the minimum breaking strength
    • The most common grades used are: 1470N/mm²,1770N/mm², 1570N/mm²
    • Other grades are used for some special applications
    • The core: fiber core (FC), usually polypropylene (PC),sometimes hemp (HC) and sisal
    • Independent wire rope core (IWRC)
    • Wire strand core (WSC)
    • IWRC and WSC are sometimes referred to as steel wire core orsteel center
    • Construction: expressed in numbers of strands x number ofwires
    • For example: 6 x 25 indicates that the wire rope consists of 6strands, which in turn have 25 individual wires
    • Lay: right regular lay (RRL), right lang lay (RLL), leftregular lay (LRL), left lang lay (LLL)
