Shizhulian is mainly produced in the Dafengpu virgin forest area of Huangshui National Forest Park in Huangshui Town, Shizhu County. The unique climate, water quality, and soil conditions in this area are the best growing areas for Shizhulianlian. In 1991, the Ministry of Agriculture invested in Huangshui Town established the National Huanglian GAP demonstration base, and the town also established China`s largest market for Coptis.

In 2009, after the success of the [Shizhu Huanglian" geographical trademark application, the price of Huanglian in the county climbed steadily. Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County has developed to more than 7,000 ethnic groups. In 2010, the company had more than 50,000 acres in the ground, and it can harvest about 300,000 kilograms of berberine each year, and the output value exceeded 30 million yuan.
